My wife and I have just purchased a house and need to get insurance to cover the mortgage should one of us die. As a pilot, can I get Life Insurance?
This is a good question – given the nature of the job some people immediately think that there is a level of difficulty obtaining Life Insurance.
There are a few considerations that need to be taken into account that the insurers will ‘dig deeper’ into, for example is this private flying? Is this commercial airline flying? Is this a combination of both? Is there any other flying involved?
To summarise the above question, a commercial airline pilot will usually be able to obtain Life Insurance with no complications e.g. flying a plane for British Airways.
This tends to become more complicated if there is private flying involved, on its own or in combination with commercial aviation. In order to make a decision insurers will want to know what type of plane you fly, where you fly, how many hours you fly and whether there is any stunt flying.
