Does Income Protection Cover Motorbike Riding?

I’m thinking about taking out Income Protection but one thing I’m unsure on is if I will be covered for riding my motorbike? I ride it most days to get to work.

Every insurer has a different stance to this; it’s therefore very important to speak to one of our advisers so that they can advise you on which insurers are the best when it comes to riding a motorbike.

As a general rule of thumb, as long as you abide by the Road Safety Requirements of riding a motorbike and it is fully licensed and insured, then the majority of Income Protection insurers are happy to cover this.

But again it is very important to mention this to your adviser to ensure that the particular insurer you are going with is happy to offer cover for this.

For some insurers it depends on factors such as the size of the engine and the distance you travel on your motorbike, so it’s best to get an expert involved to ensure you’re looking at the right policy.

If the motorbike is also used for track days or racing then it is also vital that the insurers know about this as certain insurers have different appetites to motor sports. Most mainstream insurers would place an exclusion on the plan for motor sports.

Mentioning this to your adviser would be the best way to get a clear and accurate answer.
