Can I Get Life Insurance if I’ve Had a Stroke?

I’ve recently suffered a stroke and it’s made me think about taking out a Life Insurance plan to pay off the mortgage if I’m to suffer another one and the worst happens. Would any insurance companies let me apply?

The good news is that Life Insurance is available for stroke sufferers; however, it will all depend on a number of factors.

Your eligibility will initially depend on how recent the stroke was and your age. Regrettably if the stroke was within 6 months prior to applying, cover will usually be postponed until at least 6 months has passed.

The secondary factors the insurance company will take into consideration are:

Given the seriousness of a stroke, the insurer will write to your GP to obtain full medical information and would want to establish that you have recovered with no residual symptoms.

Based on these details there is a good chance an insurer may offer Life Cover, but any offer typically would come with an increased premium charged.
