Can I Get Income Protection Insurance With Diabetes?

I’m a 35-year-old male with diabetes and I’m looking to take out Income Protection to cover my bills if I need to make a claim. Will any insurance companies let me apply?

Medical disclosure on application

As Income Protection policies are underwritten at application stage, any pre-existing or recent health condition will have to do be disclosed when applying for the policy so the insurer can assess and decided what terms are going to be offered.

As with any health disclosure that is made, it is important for us to obtain as much information about the diabetes that you have so we can identify which insurer(s) could be able to cover you.

Information the Insurer May Require

It is very unlikely an insurer would offer a policy to a diabetic without applying what is called ‘special terms’, which would usually entail an exclusion being applied to any claims relating to your diabetes or your initial premium being increased to negate the added risk.
