Stress related illnesses are included with most insurers
Income protection insurance can cover stress related illnesses and mental illnesses, in fact in 2011 31% of claims with the insurer LV were for Mental Disorders, e.g. stress.
Generally income protection policies do not have standard exclusions but please bear in mind that most insurers will not cover you for a pre existing condition. However the good news is that as the income protection policies are underwritten upfront it is clear from the outset what is covered and what is not.
Mental illness is one of the biggest causes of work absence in the UK, and according to Mind will affect 1 in 4 of us. That’s why it pays to look for a protection policy, particularly Income Protection Insurance, that provide access to free to use, private therapy services such as counselling if required.
