I’m considering taking out Income protection and was wondering if I were to have an accident whilst sailing would I be covered?
There are a number of variables which can come into if play for Income Protection insurers to cover sailing.
In general, leisure sailing in dinghies or yachts in a lake, reservoir or inland can be covered.
This does depend greatly on the insurer however and also on the history of the applicant. It can help if there have been no prior injuries from the sailing and also if the applicant has any sailing qualifications.
What’s less likely to be covered is trans-ocean racing – this could require specialist advice and specialist cover.
It is always best to discuss the specifics of your sailing with an adviser so that they can get a full understanding of your circumstances and research which provider is going to be best for you.
