Key information for those with a family history of cancer
With the most recent research in 2015 from Cancer Research stating that 1 in 2 people will develop cancer in their lifetimes a history of cancer in the family can be a concern for many. With large long term commitments, such as a mortgage, life insurance can be critical. If you do have a family history of cancer all is not lost.
Will the insurers cover cancer?
The insurers vary greatly in how they will deal with cancer in the family. When speaking to your adviser they would need the following information to enable them to source the best insurer for you:
- Who were the family member(s)
- What type of cancer was suffered
- Is the type of cancer hereditary
- The age of diagnoses
Once the life insurer has the above information they will then be able to make a decision for you which could be anything from no change to the quoted premium to an increase, or even an outright decline in some cases.
Your adviser will be able to walk you through the process and get the best insurer for you.
