Can I get critical illness cover with asthma?

Is critical illness insurance available to asthma sufferers? I’ve had it since childhood and it doesn’t affect my day to day life and haven’t been to the doctors with it for ages.

What the insurers might want to know

In general, when applying for Critical Illness Cover, asthma is not considered a serious condition. Of course, this condition varies from person to person in terms of the severity and required treatments and so insurers will ask questions about the asthma itself.

For instance, have there been any hospitalisations in the past, has the person taken oral steroids recently, do you smoke, what symptoms do you suffer with and when was the last asthma attack?

Get in touch…

It is always best to talk to an adviser so they can get all the relevant information down and talk with each insurer on your behalf to get the best critical illness policy terms available for your personal circumstances.

For the majority of asthma cases, standard terms should be available with no increases to premiums.
