Typical information the providers will want to know
Each insurer has their own way of measuring risk, therefore each insurer will view things differently. There are a few variants that the insurers will consider when it comes to covering sailing. For example, LV, one of the leading UK insurers will ask the following questions:
- Type of sailing, e.g. recreational or cross Atlantic racing?
- What crafts do you sail?
- Which areas do you sail to?
- Number of crew members?
Based on the responses to these questions, the insurer can then provide a final decision, with the worst case scenario being an increase to the premium (unless you are a professional sailor where it’s possible the insurer could decline cover altogether).
Drewberry can help…
To summarise, you can cover sailing with the majority of UK insurers, it’s just a case of finding which insurer will be the most suitable for your specific sailing activities. This research can be done by one of our advisers on your behalf at no extra cost.
