Does Critical Illness Insurance Cover Sailing?

We’ve just had our first child and I’m looking at taking out Critical Illness Cover in case something happens and I can’t work. I’m a pilot and although it can be seen as a dangerous job I was wondering if I could still get this cover?
I’ve had trouble in the past with getting other personal insurances and I’ve been recommended your service by a friend. Can you help?
There are several insurers who can consider pilots for Critical Illness Cover but it is not always going to be readily available with all mainstream providers due to your occupation.
Generally speaking, one can expect to have the Total Permanent Disability (TPD) element removed from the plan or have a slightly less comprehensive version included.
It is often the case that Critical Illness Cover is bought with Life Insurance as a combined policy and although cover would still be available, if you partake in private aviation (rather than being a commercial pilot) it is likely the insurer will charge a higher premium to reflect a higher mortality risk.
It would be best to speak to an independent adviser who can access the entire UK market which will enable a tailored and specific recommendation to be made.
This is because not all critical illness plans are identical in terms of the conditions that are covered and your adviser can discuss those differences between providers with you.
