What Is PMI Excess Cover?
Not all employees have Private Medical Insurance (PMI) — and not everyone needs excess cover through their Health Cash Plan. This feature allows you to decide which employees can use their cash plan to reclaim the PMI excess they’ve paid, and which employees shouldn’t have this included.
It’s a simple way to tailor cover based on eligibility, reduce unnecessary costs, and keep your scheme accurate, fair, and fully aligned with your benefits policy.
How Does PMI Excess Work?
To update an employee’s PMI excess cover, head to the Health Cash Plan tab in your Admin Centre. Click the ‘Avatar’ icon in the top-right corner of your dashboard, then select ‘Admin‘ from the menu.
Once in the admin centre, go to the ‘Benefits’ tab.
From the top of the benefits tab, then choose the ‘Health Cash Plan’ tab.
If a new employee, who is eligible for the Health Cash Plan, has been added to the platform, you’ll see a selection approval task under ‘Outstanding Actions’. Make sure that you are looking at ‘All Tasks’ and the drop down is selected to ‘All’
Expand the relevant task by hitting the drop down arrow which is at the bottom of the task. Within the benefit selection, you’ll see the option to choose the level of PMI excess cover:
-
No Cover
-
Single Cover
-
Couple Cover
Manually Creating A Benefit Selection
If a benefit selection hasn’t been created automatically, for example, if the employee isn’t a new joiner and their policy just needs updating, you can easily create one manually. Just scroll to the employee’s ‘Current Membership’, click ‘Create’, and follow the steps to set up a new selection with the appropriate level of cover. Need a refresher on how to do this? Click here for a step-by-step guide.
Approve Your Selection
Once you’re happy with the selection, just hit ‘Approve’. The platform will automatically send an update to the provider to ensure cover is applied correctly.
Because the PMI Excess option appears directly within the selection process, it’s quick and easy to tailor benefits to each employee’s needs, based on whether they have PMI or not.
