London-based mobile gaming firm Trailmix was born in 2017 to increase the depth and richness of the smartphone gaming experience. While it’s a fairly new company it’s nonetheless a business with a huge heart that goes the extra mile to look after its workers.

Trailmix has 18 staff at the time of writing, but is expanding rapidly all the time, especially since its seed round investment of $4.2 million from Supercell in February 2018.

Like so many businesses, Trailmix wanted to give back to the staff working hard to make it a success. That’s why Lauren Alper, Trailmix’s Office Manager, began looking for Corporate Health Insurance for the employees at the start of 2020.

However, arranging Group Health Insurance isn’t always straightforward.

“While I was already aware of the main providers on the market and could have chosen any of them, this was my first time arranging Health Insurance,” recalls Lauren. “Although I looked on insurers’ websites, the sheer volume of information (and all the small print!) made me realise I needed a bit of help.”

That’s where Drewberry came in.

Drewberry Pulls Out All the Stops for Trailmix

Firstly, Lauren knew she wanted three main things from Trailmix’s Health Insurance scheme:

  • All pre-existing conditions covered.
  • No excess to pay (because Trailmix felt it would be a barrier to staff using the scheme).
  • A flexible policy that let the business add staff throughout the year rather than at one annual renewal date given its rapid growth projections.

However, she simply wasn’t sure how to achieve these goals. Drewberry, on the other hand, knew exactly how to do it — after all, it’s our bread and butter — and our team worked to meet every single one of Trailmix’s needs.

Enter Nadeem…

Lauren’s enquiry came through to Nadeem Farid, Head of Employee Benefits here at Drewberry.

“Trailmix’s requirements for their Health Insurance would have made going it alone tricky,” says Nadeem. “That’s why it’s best they used an adviser such as Drewberry.”

This is because, while it’s fairly simple to arrange a flexible policy without an excess as per Trailmix’s needs, what’s harder is getting all pre-existing medical conditions covered.

“Known as medical history disregarded underwriting, it’s usually only available for larger schemes,” explains Nadeem. “This said, it was something that was very important to Trailmix so I knew I had to pull a rabbit out of a hat!

“I worked with various insurers and used our leverage as an intermediary to make it happen, eventually recommending AXA to provide Trailmix’s cover.”

Trailmix Loves AXA

The policy Nadeem arranged is a huge hit.

“We couldn’t be happier with AXA,” says Lauren. “Staff are really pleased to have the protection available — three people have already used the scheme.

“What’s more, we got exactly the cover we were hoping for. Nadeem ensured the policy covers all pre-existing medical conditions despite us being a relatively small group and that staff have no excess to pay.”

Doctor@Hand: Goodbye GP Waiting Rooms

Trailmix are particularly loving the Doctor@Hand service that comes free with AXA Health Insurance.

“Doctor@Hand allows people to access healthcare as quickly as possible with a remote GP service via a smartphone,” explains Nadeem. “This avoids any wait for an NHS GP appointment. This is especially valuable currently with coronavirus.”

“The feedback I’ve had is that obtaining an appointment is both fast and easy, while the GP was really attentive,” says Lauren. “We’ve also already had one staff member referred to a specialist from the Doctor@Hand service.

“From a company perspective, the quicker they can get in to see a doctor the less time they are likely to be off work. Obviously, this is great for both the staff member and the business.”

The Benefits of Corporate Health Insurance

As well as being a huge positive internally, Lauren also believes having Health Insurance will be a useful factor externally as well.

“Although we’re a fairly small company, this scheme has now put us on par with our competitors in the mobile gaming industry in terms of what we offer to staff. It should therefore help us attract the best talent going forward.”

Why Lauren Chose Drewberry…

“Although I came across Drewberry in a chance Google search, I’m so glad I did,” Lauren says. “I was taken straight away by the number of positive reviews Drewberry had for its service.

“Another thing I liked was that the website had a clear, simple explanation of the cover and what it would entail. Overall, I felt safe and secure with Drewberry and could tell they were experts in what they do.”

While Lauren admits that there was a lot of back and forth with various different combinations of cover, she adds: “Nadeem handled it so professionally and always got back to me so quickly. The service Nadeem gave has just been fantastic. I really would recommend him and Drewberry to anyone who needs assistance with their employee benefits.

Trailmix also has a unique employee benefits portal created just for them, a feature we offer our group protection clients. Lauren has found this has made implementing the scheme much easier.

“It explains how to use the insurance and who to contact if you have any questions or need to make a claim,” explains Lauren. “It makes everything so easy now staff have access to it.”

“Overall, Nadeem was absolutely amazing, helpful and attentive to all our requirements. We wanted to ensure we got the very best cover for our employees and Nadeem spent a lot of time going back to forth with providers to get us a policy we are very happy with.

“I would 100% recommend working with Drewberry. My experience was extremely professional, friendly and a five star service. Thank you for all your help!”
