The importance of advice for Pilots
Different insurers have different appetites when it comes to certain occupations. There are also specific insurers for different sorts of occupations that would certainly offer a more comprehensive level of cover.
We would recommend to speak to one of our independent advisers as they have access to all the insurers in the UK and have a great deal of knowledge on which insurers offer the most comprehensive cover for certain occupations and which insurers that should be avoided.
Pilots could get cover with specific insurers
In the past we know many of our clients who are pilots have found it quite difficult to obtain Income Protection Insurance for themselves. However, Drewberry have helped many pilots in the past with this insurance but it is usually necessary to turn to more specialist insurers.
Cover could depend on the kind of flying you do
If you’re a commercial airline pilot there are a limited number of insurers who are willing to offer cover, especially with the all important ‘own occupation’ definition of incapacity, but it is possible.
If you fly as a hobby there are more insurers that would be willing to offer cover but there may be an exclusion on the plan or the insurer will offer cover but raise the premiums. It’s best to get in touch as it depends on a number of factors such as the type of plane you fly and flying hours per annum.
